Managing Anxiety During COVID

Boy was 2020 a year! According to the CDC, 40 percent of U.S. adults reported struggling with mental health or with substance abuse from a study done in late June. From the North American wild fires, George Floyd’s death, Riots, Kobe’s death, Donald Trumps impeachment, Kamala Harris elected as VP, and oh yeah…an ENTIRE PANDEMIC – let’s just say I’m glad we survived.

For some that still have that lingering anxiety that darn 2020 has given us, here are a few tips to help you manage during COVID.

Start your morning with kindness

I mean this really works! After I finish making my bed in the morning, I go to the bathroom to brush my teeth and I have post-it notes with positive affirmations written on them to read as I brush my teeth to get my mind right for the day. Have you ever had a morning start off on the wrong note, then suddenly everything and everyone around you are just horrible after that?

Well, there’s a science behind it!

According to Health Shots, a study from Social Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience reveals practicing self-affirmations activates the reward center of your brain which include the ventral striatum (VS) and ventromedial prefrontal cortex (VMPFC).

So start your morning with kindness!

And put the phone away for at least for the first 15 minutes of your morning for no distractions. It makes a HUGE difference.

Try this grounding exercise

This is something that has been extremely helpful to me and you can download the PDF I made for you at the end of this post so can download and use it when you need to.

The 5 senses

  • List 5 things you can see
  • List 4 things you can touch
  • List 3 things you can hear
  • List 2 things you can smell
  • List one thing you can taste

You can say these out loud or in your head. Either way will work.

Take baby steps

Kind of like that.

When dealing with anxiety it’s easy to tell yourself things like “I should feel okay” or “There’s nothing wrong, it’s all in my head”. Please go easy on yourself. Give yourself a break. We are humans and unfortunately can not schedule emotions. We don’t wake up one morning saying…

Ahhhhh, today looks like a beautiful day for some anxiety

I hope this helps! Please let me know what you thought of this post in the comment section or social media below. Till next time!

Working from Home During COVID? Here Are Some Game Changing Ways to Feel Productive

Millions have joined the world of working from home in 2020. According to The Atlantic, half of Facebook employees will continue to work remote within the decade and 200,000 google employees will continue to work from home till summer of this year.

As a new member of the work from home team, I can speak for most when I say it is a whole other world.

Yes, you can save some time in the morning by not having to get to the office. Yes, you can call into your Zoom meeting with PJ bottoms, or even handle your weekend errands during your lunch. While these things can initially seem great, it can really mess with your mood through time. You can easily start to feel down and unmotivated staring at the same four walls all day. Here are some game changing tips to help you feel productive.

1. OWN your morning

Start with small things each week. Make your bed, journal, meditate. Get dressed. Start with one of these things each week. It definitely helped me when getting started.

Most importantly remind yourself how much of a BOSS you are. These are some tough times.

2. Set up your space

Take some time and add color to your workspace! Colors play a big part in your mood so try some bright or bold looks.

3. Eat Healthy and Stay Hydrated

Energy is a key to maintaining a positive mindset throughout the day. Drink your water and keep only the healthy snacks around you. Your body will adjust on its own!

4. Stretch

Last but certainly not least, get up and stretch! Take your breaks and stretch to some bumping music. Stretching not only reduces tension but it also increases energy to get you up and motivated.

Easy Quarantine Workout Routine

When I was overweight and living at home at 18, I was understandably told to stay inside the house because our neighborhood wasn’t very safe. When deciding to lose weight, I had to think of creative ways to workout at home as I was also fresh out of high school with no job. I remember running back and forth from one side of the house to the other, doing high knees and randomly dancing in my locked bathroom. So trust me when I say I completely understand the difficulties in staying fit during quarantine .

If you are having trouble with coming home with at home workouts, here are some easy ones you can use with no equipment needed.

High Knees

According to HealthLine, high knees can burn anywhere from 240-355.50 Calories in just 30 minutes. If you are only starting out, I would recommend starting on splitting it up throughout the day or within your work out.

Jumping Jacks

If you have the space, jumping jacks are pretty fun once you find a song that goes with the rhythm of your jumping. You can burn up to 138 calories per 15 minutes of jumping jacks for someone who weighs 150 lbs. Figure out how much you can burn with your weight using this calculator.

Elbow to straight-arm plank

One of my personal favorites.

For this exercise, you want to start in a high plank, bring one forearm down, then bring the next. Repeat this and it will be sure to get your heart rate going and calories burning.

Crab Kicks and Mountain Climbers

Either mix them up like she did or do them separately, either way, you will sweat. For someone weighing 150 lbs, you can burn up to 12 calories per minute. Calculator found here.

For mountain climbers you can burn more than 10 calories per minute for someone weighing in at 130 lbs.

There is your easy quarantine routine with absolutely no equipment needed. If you’d like some more ideas, let me know! Thank you for stopping by. Don’t forget to follow for more quotes and tips!

Hi everyone and Happy New Year!

2020 is finally over and there is a light we can see at the end of the tunnel. First, I would like to say how happy I am to get back to writing. With so much going on in the world, I am going to write about topics I feel may help you or someone you know. Let’s dive in!

As we all know, COVID-19 came in hot to 2020 causing many to lose their jobs, loved ones, and much more. According to Economic Policy Institute, there were nearly 22.2 million jobs lost in March and April with a decline in current job growth. Although there are definitely more jobs being added to the shifting market, here are a few ways you can make money today.

Yes, you read that right. You can get paid to babysit virtually. You can register through VeeBee and create an account to start making money. You are able to set your rate to whatever rate you’d like. If you do not know what rate to start at, I definitely recommend searching the market in your area to go off.

Weather you are an excellent Administrative Assistant, Artist, or have any type of skill you can offer, Fivver and Upwork are great places to create an account and start making money asap!
